Weekly Facial Spa: 7 Steps to Combat Winter Dry Skin
The winter cold and wind can take the glow from your skin, robbing it of moisture, making your face feel tight and look dull, and leaving your lips flaky and peeling. If you’ve ever looked in the mirror and felt like you just can’t seem to apply enough moisturizing crème or you need more blush than you normally apply, you might just need to treat yourself to a facial spa. If you have dry, flaky skin, your makeup and face crème sit on top of that dry layer. Think of it as applying a coat of fresh, new paint to a piece of wood on top of old, dry and peeling paint. The new paint can’t soak into the wood, and the skin works much the same.
Follow the 7 steps below to bring the radiance back to your face:
Step 2: Steam. Steam helps to lift and separate the dead, rough and flaky areas from your skin and open your pores. Place a warm, wet washcloth on your face and neck. Using a larger cloth like a hand towel allows you to cover the neck as well. You should not experience any discomfort while steaming. Make sure your cloth is not too hot before applying to your face by testing it on a tender portion of your arm like the wrist or inside of the elbow. Let the cloth remain on your face and neck for 5-10 minutes.
Step 3: Exfoliate. Remove the cloth and while your skin is still moist, begin to exfoliate using Microdermabrasion Crème. Be gentle. It’s easier to judge your pressure when you apply with your fingertips. Work in a circular motion. Your skin is warm and soft and your pores are open from the steam, so it will not take much pressure to exfoliate. Let the product do the work, not the pressure. Be sure to hit the areas where dry skin can build up like the corners of the nose and avoid around the tender eye area. Rinse and pat dry with a soft towel.
Step 4: Tone. Now that you’ve exposed that fresh new layer of skin, it’s time to tone and close those pores. Lightly spritz the Hydrating or Clarifying Facial Mist over face and neck and allow to dry.
Step 5: Moisturize. Time to put a protective hydrating barrier between your face and the dry winter air. Enrich your skin with the healing power of vitamin E and aloe by applying your favorite face crème.
Step 6: Replenish and Repair. If you have areas that need some special attention and a little extra hydration and plumping up, such as crows feet, eyelids and under eye areas, now is the time to apply your Hydrating Eye Crème and Organic Anti Aging Serum or Green Tea Antioxidant Serum. Gently using your ring finger, dab serum and crème to the desired areas and allow to soak in.
Step 7: Lips. Dry, flaking lips can ruin the look of your lipstick or lip gloss. While your face crème is soaking in, apply the yummy sugar based Exfoliating Lip Polish and scrub gently with your finger. The scrubbing will increase the blood flow to the lips and make them beautifully full as well as smooth as silk. Wipe, or if you can’t resist, lick the remaining sugar off of your lips and apply the Nourishing Lip Butter. To keep lips soft, use the Nourishing Lip Butter throughout the day.
Pampering yourself with a facial spa once a week will keep your skin hydrated and nourished as well as create a smooth palette for your Sheer Minerals Makeup. Not to mention, it’s a fun idea for a girls’ night in or spa party! Brew up some herbal teas, flavored coffees or mulled wine, invite some friends and make a night of it!
