Hold your breath.
“When you want it as bad as you want to breathe you will be successful.” - Eric Thomas
That is the quote that became my mantra when I wanted to throw in the towel, two months before I hit month one of Director with Lemongrass Spa. You see when I first joined, I just wanted to make enough money to pay a few bills. I wanted to stop living pay check to pay check and quit working one of my two jobs. My first party, hitting all my jump starts and the extra income I was earning however, fueled the fire in me to want more. I watched as consultants around me, who had started at the same time as I did, promoted to new levels while I stood stagnant. I thought I was doing everything I could to promote and my discouragement grew.
At my first convention, my goal was to figure out what it was that these competitors of mine and other top leaders were doing that I wasn’t. After eaves dropping on their conversations and watching them throughout the weekend, I noticed one common theme. They all had a positive mindset, no matter what obstacles they faced, and they had a why that fueled their actions. On the plane ride home from that convention, I had a very serious talking with myself. “Tara, how bad do you want this? Why do you want this? What is holding you back from realizing your dreams? If you want to take this seriously, put your feelings aside and focus on your why. Stay in YOUR lane and STOP comparing yourself to others. Keep doing the next right thing.”
I had to change my mindset. I had to want it. Really want it. I saw the potential that Lemongrass Spa offered and when I returned home, I did not let fear keep me from implementing what I had learned at convention. I picked up that 500 pound phone, I passed samples out to gasp…strangers and I got serious and implemented SYSTEMS! On the days I was tired, or thought I didn’t have the time, I asked myself…how bad do you want it? I reminded myself of my why. I told myself I COULD.
Guess what? When I did those things. When I stayed in my lane, adjusted my mindset and started using phrases like “I will…”…I began to see huge results in my business. I finally promoted to Director and earned three more promotions that same year.
Imagine if I had thrown in the towel all because of my mindset. All that it took was a change in my mindset and that concrete soul deep why.
When you have those moments of discouragement, I want you to stop. Remind yourself of your why and change your mindset. Hold your breath and remember….when you want it as bad as you want to breathe, you will be successful.
I am no different than any of you. I am a woman, a mom, a wife…who faces obstacles and discouragements just like you. How bad do you want it?
