With Love...A Survivor's Story

In honor of October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Lemongrass Spa is encouraging those bravely fighting any type of cancer to share their stories with us, and in return we will gift them one of our Loving Care Sets. Read one survivor’s inspiring journey to a fresh, clean & natural lifestyle.

HeatherMiller.jpgHello! My name is Heather Miller, Senior Director with Lemongrass Spa Products. I would like to share a little bit about my journey with Lemongrass Spa. In August of 2014, a friend of mine contacted me to share that she had just joined natural skin care company and wanted to send me a catalog and samples to try. I knew that if she loved them, they must be something special. My friend is a breast cancer survivor and meticulous about what goes on and in her body. When the products arrived, I was amazed at the purity of the ingredients used in these products. And the best part was how very well the products worked!

I too am a breast cancer survivor. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in May of 2011. At the time, my husband was deployed with the Marine Corps. I underwent 16 rounds of chemotherapy, a double mastectomy, and 33 rounds of radiation treatments at the age of 37. My breast cancer was NOT genetic, I did not carry the BRCA gene and there was no history of breast cancer in my family. My cancer was labeled “Environmental”, in fact I was part of a clinical study and parabens were found in my breast tumor. That was a huge wakeup call for me!

My family went on a mission to go clean and green with our diet, cleaning products, and with our skin care. The diet and cleaning products were pretty easy to change over. However, I would spend hours researching skin care products only to end up frustrated and angry at what I found. So many products were labeled “hypo-allergic, organic, and natural” but when I would read the ingredients list, those products still contained harsh and even toxic chemicals.

I even tried making my own lotions and skincare products at home, and failed pretty miserably. I resorted to using with coconut oil, but my body still needed something else, I just could not seem to figure out what it was. So when the Lemongrass Spa products arrived from my friend, Lenora, the timing could not have been any better. The eczema on my back went away in 3 days. My skin was finally soft, vibrant, and HAPPY. I was hooked and I decided to join this amazing company without even attending a Spa Party, I was that impressed! I wanted to share these products with my family!

3 Sure Ways to Get Bookings in Direct Sales by Becky Spieth

Becky Spieth is a world renowned, award-winning direct sales consultant, mentor and speaker. With over 20 years of experience, she helps develop some of the top leaders in sales and recruiting in the industry. Lemongrass Spa is honored to announce Becky as the keynote speaker for leadership at the Grand Hyatt Tampa, Florida on Friday, July 22.

Post on Facebook:

There are people that you are friends with that want to book parties with you RIGHT NOW! Then, why are they not on your calendar? You just haven’t created a great enough need for your product, in their opinion.

Now… please don’t go and start spamming everyone on Facebook with ad after ad or desperate begging on your timeline or business page.

Instead of this unproductive vomiting of information and harassment, come from a place of service and post before and afters if that works you’re your product line, or post – “What’s your biggest “skin” challenge?” (if you sell skincare) or “What’s your biggest “meal time” challenge?” (if you sell food items or items for meal prep), “What’s your biggest challenge with accessorizing your wardrobe?” (if you sell jewelry), or “What’s your biggest “cleaning” challenge? (if you sell cleaning products).

Don’t Sweat It…We’ve Got You Covered!

I don’t know about you, but having underarm odor is one of the most embarrassing things for a girl or a guy. Having to avoid someone with bad body odor is hard to cover up. As a teenager or as an adult, this awkward situation is something that can be avoided with the right combination of products.

Did you know that sweat is actually odorless inside the body?

When perspiration is exposed to the atmosphere chemical changes happen. Bacteria on the surface processes the perspiration, causing odor. On average people have 3 to 4 million sweat glands! It’s no wonder Americans are obsessed with great smelling sprays, perfumes, deodorants and antiperspirants!

There are two sweat glands, the eccrine and apocrine. Things like exercise, stress, eating spicy food, hormones, diseases, taking strong medication, running a fever, gastro problems and prolonged infections cause these glands to work overtime to cool off our bodies.

To reduce odor, bacteria on the skin should either be eliminated or out run by good bacteria to create a friendly, less odiferous environment. Good hygiene can go a long way in reducing odor as well as avoiding caffeine, spicy foods and even red meat.

2015 Year in Review

From revealing a brand new magazine-style catalog, to launching a line of certified organic essential oils, to being named to the Top 100 Women Owned Companies for the second time, 2015 has been an incredible year for growth and opportunity. Here's our 2015 year in review.

Products

The introduction of innovative new products is one of the key elements in engaging our customers and creating excitement for our sales consultants. Sheer Minerals BB Crème (Beauty Balm) was a huge hit with our customers and consultants. This lightweight tinted moisturizer was offered in five shades to provide a ‘liquid foundation’ to those who prefer it. Inspired by the Pantone Color of the Year, Merlot Organic Crème Lipstick and Marsala Blush quickly became favorites among makeup wearers. An essential oil collection, complete with Fractionated Coconut Oil and rollerball vials for mixing blends, was introduced in the summer. Tea Tree, Lemon, Lavender, Peppermint single oils plus Immune Boost, Balancing Act and Mint Revival blends were offered to customers, in addition to many essential oil products we’ve been selling for years. We launched a revolutionary Prebiotic Facial Wash and Facial Mist at our annual convention in July. In addition to the popular Prebiotic Body Wash, this organic, GMO-free product works on a molecular level by stimulating good microorganisms on the skin and promoting collagen production. Prebiotic Foaming Liquid Soap was introduced in four varieties including Mandarin Orange, Candy Cane, Tea Tree with Citrus and Unscented.

Top Leaders Attend Leading the Way Retreat

Twenty-two women from Lemongrass Spa Products participated in an empowering weekend with Belinda Ellsworth and her Step Into Success Team at the Leading the Way Leadership Retreat in Chicago, Illinois last month. At the cornerstone of the event was the celebration of the release of Belinda’s Direct Selling for Dummies, Amazon’s #1 Bestselling Book in several business categories. This exceptional how-to book helps the reader navigate the direct sales industry in pursuit of success, setting goals, managing their time wisely and harnessing the power of social media to book, sell and recruit. Each attendee received an autographed copy of this business-building manual.

DirectSellingDummiesCollage.jpg

Belinda showcased some of the most impactful social media speakers in today’s direct selling arena, including Lydia Martin and Lyndsay Tompkins. Expert storyteller, comedian and author, Kelly Swanson had the entire audience rolling out of their seats with laughter as she helped us see through our obstacles and make fun of our shortcomings. Linda Ellis inspired us to live each minute as if it were our last. Author of the world-renowned book, The Dash, Ellis shared first hand how th

is book has touched the hearts of millions.

Lemongrass Spa’s Executive Director, Tara LaMagna, was asked to present her successful steps in exceptional team engagement to the direct sales leaders attending the event. Tara’s story of how she built a team of 300 consultants in just over two years had leaders from dozens of direct selling companies feverishly taking notes. Tara’s style of utilizing Facebook groups to motivate and inspire her team, Facebook parties to increase her sales and systems for attracting new recruits to her team have been instrumental in her success. Tara traveled to the Dominican Republic in June 2015 as one of the Spa Destination Trip earners and was named to the Dynamic Dozen (Top in Sales) at the Annual Convention.

Marketing Your Direct Selling Business with Instagram

Last year my teenage daughter asked if she could get an Instagram account. This was an eye-opening and educational experience for our family as we learned a whole new way to communicate on social media with our kids and their friends. As teens moved away from Facebook and over to Instagram in large numbers last year, parents have another social media environment to monitor, with some added benefits if you’re open minded about learning a slightly different marketing approach. Instagram isn’t just for teens. Almost 80% of Instagram users are between 13-49, and 68% of the users are female.

After sitting down with my daughter for about fifteen minutes I was educated on setting up my profile, posting pictures and getting creative with #hashtags. From a teen perspective there are cool things to post on Instagram and very uncool things and now that we were following each other the last thing I wanted to do is appear as a stalker parent.   There were some abbreviations I needed to Google in order to understand what she and her friends were talking about: #goals, ttyl, TBT, OOTD, bae, cray, LYT and WTH. Now that I had the basics down I was off and running.

Because Instagram is picture and video driven (you can’t make a post without one) the visual stimulation when you scroll through the feed can become rather addictive. I found myself following gluten-free chefs, beach yoga instructors, natural skincare crafters, coffee drinkers, motivational speakers and crossfit athletes. Because IG sorts photos by hashtags, when you go to explore new people you’ll immediately gravitate toward people with common interests.

Creating Connections

Posting comments on Instagram is much like Facebook and you can easily engage with new people simply but making a positive comment on their photo. You can private message your friend on Instagram, too, which also requires attaching a photo to the initial message. Another way to engage with your friends is to add their IG name, for example @abc123, as a comment to a post, or tag them in a post. The next time your friend goes to their Instagram account they will see the post you intended for them to see. It goes without saying, if someone follows you, follow them back, unless of course you have reasons not to. Since about 70% of Instagram users check their feed at least once a day, post pictures regularly to keep followers engaged and interested. Follow and engage with people who have similar interests as you. For example, if you see a user who often posts about a healthy lifestyle and natural skin care, you may want to follow them.

5 Languages of Appreciation

Everyone wants to feel appreciated. We want to know that we matter. What are you doing to show appreciation to your employees at work or to your direct sales team? You may be surprised to find that your efforts might not be making the impact you were aiming for.

First, don’t confuse appreciation with recognition. Recognition acknowledges good performance or a milestone. Appreciation acknowledges a person’s full value. Want to make someone feel really special? Acknowledge them for who they are, not just for what they do.

In their book, The 5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace, Gary Chapman and Paul White explain that what makes one person feel appreciated does not make another person feel appreciated. By determining his or her individual “language” you can express your appreciation in a way that is the most meaningful and deeply felt.

The Five Languages are:

  • Words of Affirmation – Focus on the person’s character and not just his or her performance. Go out of your way to thank and praise them verbally or perhaps give them a handwritten note.
  • Quality Time – People who prefer this language want your focused attention. If it is impossible to spend time face-to-face because of distance, try a phone call or Skype session, as long as there are no interruptions.
  • Acts of Service – If you enjoy being shown appreciation through acts of service, you know how good it makes you feel when someone offers to help you with chores or work tasks. Be cheerful when you offer to help and be sure to do things their way!
  • Tangible Gifts – The important thing here is the thought behind the gift, not the monetary value. Present them with a homemade gift or a gift card to their favorite coffee shop. Of course, Lemongrass Spa Products are always the perfect choice!
  • Physical Touch – While physical touch is not appropriate in most work settings, the consultants at Lemongrass Spa love to hug and high-five when we are together! Just make sure the recipient is comfortable with any type of physical gesture before assuming it’s okay.

The most important ingredient in showing appreciation is sincerity. Be genuine in your praise. By doing so, you can make a difference in the life of someone else. By making someone feel truly appreciated you can encourage him or her to climb higher and reach his or her true potential!

Revolutionary Prebiotic Body Wash

The skin is far and away the largest organ of the human body. What you might not realize about your skin is that it is literally a microbiologic zoo, housing hundreds of different bacteria, many very beneficial and a few which can ruin your appearance or have destructive health consequences.

If you are interested in healthy skin, you must understand that the friendly bacteria living on your skin are not disease causing. They are actually an integral part of you. The truth is that we are a mix of human cells and microorganisms, i.e. friendly bacteria that lives on our skin and provides important health promoting functions.

Unfortunately, living among the large populations of friendly bacteria, there can also be quite diverse and vibrant colonies of unhealthy bacteria. These unhealthy bacteria are different genetically from the friendly bacteria, and the relative strength of the various friendly versus unfriendly bacteria colonies determines the health and appearance of our skin.

Enter Lemongrass Spa Products’ Prebiotic Body Wash, which is an alkaloid-based biostimulant that feeds a wide variety of friendly microorganisms on the skin. Mark Hesseling, Product Development Manager at Lemongrass Spa Products, created a similar product years ago when he was in the environmental sciences industry. He learned how to manipulate bacteria to make it resilient to chemicals. Some of his coworkers used his concoction on their skin and started noticing incredible healing from dryness and skin issues.

Mark said, “This 100% natural, organic, ‘friendly bacteria’ food source causes healthy bacteria to go into a feeding frenzy, resulting in much higher activity levels of normal, friendly bacteria. Over a very short period of time, the healthy bacteria will completely overwhelm any harmful bacteria, virtually eliminating skin disorders of many types.”

The Direct Sales Industry – 2015 Outlook

*Lemongrass Spa Products’ Founder & CEO, Heidi Leist, shared her industry insights alongside four Direct Selling executives in the Direct Selling Association’s annual "Industry Executives Discuss Challenges, Opportunities Ahead" piece in the DSA's January 22, 2015 InTouch newsletter.

The direct selling industry has experienced a steady increase in retail sales since 2009, with a 5.9% increase between 2011 and 2012 (most recent statistical year available) according to the Direct Selling Association (DSA). In the U.S., an estimated 15.9 million people are involved in direct sales, and approximately 80% of them women. Lemongrass Spa Products is no exception boasting a 65% percent increase in sales force in 2014. Click here to read Lemongrass Spa Products’ 2014 year in review. The industry growth trend continues as consumers move toward buying from small and local retailers, direct selling companies offer a variety of quality products, and people look for flexible income avenues.

I believe the direct selling industry will continue to experience growth in 2015 because of key economic indicators, a continuing surge in internet purchases, social media and the increasingly popular selling model we offer. Generation Xers and Millennials have found the extra income they can earn by having a direct selling business satisfies their need to supplement their income. Competition for well-paying jobs is at an all-time high and college graduates are discovering that the direct selling industry offers an entrepreneurial path to success. Baby boomers find that our business model is easily adaptable into their lifestyles, it can offset healthcare expenses and the social connections are invaluable to them.

Many direct selling companies have done an effective job of reforming the image of today’s direct seller from one who is pushy, old-fashioned and dishonest to one who is trendy, successful, educated and legitimate. We’re finding that social media plays an integral role in helping build a brand and in improving the perception of direct selling by helping to establish a personal connection through the use of an electronic medium. The social media venue is geared toward supporting our philosophy of sharing and caring – whether it’s sharing the lifestyle, the products or the income opportunity. Sparking change in the perceptions of consumers’ minds can happen with positive messaging, consultants who are trained to uphold ethical business practices and media attention focused on the positive impact of direct sellers. We tailor our content to touch on at least one of these areas each time we post

At Lemongrass Spa Products, it’s our goal to continually improve our product line by adding innovative, affordable and healthy products that capture the attention of our customers. Consumers of our products are generally well-educated when it comes to the ingredients we use and because of this we are continuing to find ways to anticipate their needs and meet their expectations regarding value and outstanding quality.

2014 Year in Review

From opening a second distribution center in Florida to launching the revolutionary Prebiotic Body Wash to being named to the Top 100 Women Owned Companies, 2014 has been an incredible year for growth and opportunity. Here's our 2014 year in review.

Products

The introduction of innovative new products is one of the key elements in engaging our customers and creating excitement for our sales consultants. Roll-on deodorant in Fresh, Sport, Lavender and Unscented were introduced at the beginning of 2014. We launched a revolutionary Prebiotic Body Wash at our annual convention in Denver, Colorado in July. This organic, GMO-free product works on a molecular level by stimulating good microorganisms on the skin and promoting collagen production. Green Concealing Stick corrector, Organic Eye Makeup Remover, Stardust and Red Hot Lip Glosses, and Coral Blush were newcomers to the Sheer Minerals Makeup line. The Men’s Essentials organic skincare line was introduced featuring Shaving Crème, Body Wash, After Shave Lotion and Cleansing Gel, specially formulated for guys. Aromatherapy Mists featuring certified organic essential oil blends were introduced in five blends: Purifying Tea Tree, Lavender Relaxation, Citrus Refresher, Mint Revival and Balancing Act!

Community

We are incredibly grateful to the members of the community in Pine, Colorado who have supported us over the years. Five new employees were hired to help our expansion efforts, and we leased four additional suites in the business plaza. In July we began manufacturing and shipping from our second distribution center in Tarpon Springs, Florida with 10,000 square feet of office and warehouse space. Fourteen full-time team members are currently employed there. With both facilities fully operational, we realized a 2 to 4 day reduction in the turnaround time in shipping orders during the peak volumes: end-of-month and the holiday selling season.

D Parkhurst small  Each month Lemongrass Spa spotlights a consultant and that consultant’s successes in both business and personal life. This month Donna Parkhurst, Premier Director from Cle Elum, Washington reveals how she built a prosperous team by authentically sharing her story at parties and on social media.

Donna joined Lemongrass Spa three years ago, and in that time has earned two spa destination trips, three Director promotions, a spot on the Dynamic Dozen List (Top 12 in Sales) three years in a row, a $1000 Director Bonus and thousands of dollars a month in income. “In October alone I brought on 12 new teammates to my team and as an organization (my whole downline) we added 32 amazing ladies. We are experiencing an explosive growth and the momentum is just starting!” said Donna.

We asked Donna to share her secret to success in building her team of close-knit teammates. “Honestly, I don't ever push anyone to join my team. I do, however, offer the opportunity and when the time is right, people decide to come on board. I had someone join my team just last week who came to a party 2 years ago and wanted to join then. However, it wasn't quite the best time for her to join. She was invited to another party of mine last week and when she saw me, she caught me by surprise by exclaiming she was ready to join my team—two years later!”

When Donna was asked about what makes her leadership effective, she commented, “I feel that most in my organization have developed a special bond and we truly are in this together, whether working the business very minimally or full-time. I am sincerely hoping to expand my team to include men as well because I have found that many guys are the biggest supporters of Lemongrass!”

When people meet Donna they quickly learn about her positive outlook, the gratitude in her heart and her faith in God. “From earning the extra stream of income that enables me to supply my children with music, martial arts, and other instruction and the flexibility to travel more extensively, to the friendships I've created within Lemongrass (hostesses, other consultants, customers, etc.), I feel richly blessed.  I feel empowered by the leadership training I've received from our company and I'm honored to be able to share that with other people as they join my Lemongrass team.”
