Sheer Minerals Makeup Party

Beauty products and makeup are such a fun and personal gift to give for the holidays, why not have a glitzy, glamorous Sheer Minerals Makeover party? Much of the feedback and many posts I read indicate a level of intimidation when it comes to holding a Sheer Minerals Party. You do not need to be a makeup artist or even wear makeup to hold a successful party. If you give women the opportunity to get their hands on the makeup and experiment with it, the party virtually holds itself. Busy women often get caught in a beauty rut. We do the same look, buy the same products and stick with the same routine for years and years out of pure habit and staying in a comfort zone. Not only are you providing your guests with the time and opportunity to try new looks, products and colors on themselves, you are giving them great gift ideas for their friends and family. Below are some tips to help you conduct a successful Sheer Minerals Holiday party, regardless of your level of experience with makeup.

1.  Set up stations to avoid crowding and confusion. These should include:

*Makeup removal and facial preparation including warm washcloths, eye makeup remover, moisturizer and primer. *tip: provide a Muddy Mates Mixing & Application Tray, hand mirror (or have larger mirrors at each station) and sample brushes for each guest to keep everything sanitary and allow for mixing. Include a wish list and a pen to keep track of favorites. Encourage before and after selfies that they can share with you if they are comfortable.

*Cover up. Include all 3 concealing sticks, mineral cover-up, and sheer veils.

*Foundations and blush. Include BB crème samples or pumps and mineral foundation, blushes and setting spray.

  1. Apply your foundation below the jawline and…
  2. Blend gently down your neck to avoid the “mask” effect.
  3. Clean your brushes once a month with Tea Tree Soap and let air dry with the brush end up.backtoschool-logo.jpg
  4. Define your eyes with a deep color in the crease, medium on the lid and light on the brow bone.
  5. Eye shadow can turn into eyeliner by dipping your eyeliner brush in water and then into the powder.
  6. Finishing your look with Mineral Setting Spray will hydrate your skin and set your makeup.
  7. Get plenty of rest and stay hydrated.  Your skin will love you for it.
  8. Highlight the areas of your face you want to bring out (i.e. brow bone, apples of cheeks, chin and nose)
  9. Illuminate dull looking skin with a quick dusting of bronzer.
  10. Just try it!! If you see a look you like, don't be afraid to try it. Makeup washes off.
  11. Kaolin clay in the mineral veils will help absorb oil all day.
  12. Lashes will appear thicker and longer if you dust a little matte veil on them before mascara application.
  13. Merlot and Marsala. Any questions?
  14. Neutralize red areas with green concealer. It is the opposite on the color wheel and will conceal the redness
  15. Open the eye with a touch of white diamond in the inside corner.
  16. Primer, serum, foundation and SPF all in one: BB Crème!
  17. Quench your lips. Use our Exfoliating Lip Polish and Nourishing Lip Butter Lip Butter before your lipstick or gloss for a smoother application.
  18. Recede an area of your face by contouring with a shade slightly darker than your skin. (i.e. hollows of cheeks, under chin, eyelid crease
  19. Save your empty eye shadow or blush jars for a couple of squirts of BB crème to throw in your purse for on-the-go beauty.
  20. Try dipping your foundation brush first in BB crème and then in Mineral foundation for a full coverage airbrushed look.
  21. Undecided?  Get all your basics in a Sheer Minerals Starter Kit.
  22. Veil before makeup creates a smooth canvas.  Veil after makeup sets and finishes the look.
  23. When in doubt…Perfect Pout. It looks great on everyone!

Face to Face: Sheer Minerals v. Leading Brands

Hello Natural Beauties,

Mineral makeup is everywhere!  Almost every leading makeup brand has a version of it. The name in and of itself makes you feel like you are doing something good and healthy for your skin. Minerals are naturally occurring, so therefore…but wait, don’t be too hasty in plucking one of those pretty packages with the wholesome looking goddess off of the shelf. If what you put on your face is important to you, and I’m guessing it is or you wouldn’t be here, then lets take a look at some of the common ingredients of some leading brands of “mineral” makeup and why you WON’T find any of these in the Sheer Minerals Makeup Collection.

Talc:  Yes, it is a mineral.  While there is concern about talc in its natural form containing asbestos, the www.cancer.org site suggests that a purified form used in consumer products does not. However, talc, used as a filler in mineral makeup, can clog pores.

Bismuth Oxychloride: Yes, pure Bismuth is a mineral and is used as a thickener and absorbing agent in some products. However, Bismuth Oxychloride is not.  Bismuth oxychloride is manufactured by combining bismuth, a by-product of lead and copper metal refining, with chloride and water. It's used in cosmetics because it has an iridescent, pearly appearance. It is desirable in cosmetics for its ability to adhere to the skin.  Bismuth oxychloride was permanently listed by the FDA as a coloring agent in 1977 and as a synthetic ingredient. Many people react to this ingredient in makeup in the way of redness, hot or itchy skin and cystic breakouts.

Carmine: NOT a mineral. To prepare carmine, insect bodies are boiled in ammonia or a sodium carbonate solution,  then filtered, and alum is added to the clear salt solution of carminic acid to create the red aluminum salt, called "carmine lake" or "crimson lake." Bugs!
