4 Practical Tips for Success

Direct sales offers a unique entrepreneurship opportunity for women and men from a variety of social and economic backgrounds. They join for a myriad of reasons such as flexible schedules, extra income and “me time”. While success is different for everyone, there are a few tips that can be followed to create a lucrative home business. Jennifer Pizza, a Lemongrass Spa Consultant from Maryland, gives real-life examples of how to use these tips for your business.

Jennifer enjoyed attending home parties but “never considered being the one ‘running the show’.” After attending her sister’s Lemongrass Spa party and learning about clean products, she decided it was time to make a change for her family. With no prior experience in direct selling, Jennifer’s initial goal was for her family to live healthier and free from potentially harmful chemicals; she never fathomed where this change would lead her. In about four months Jennifer promoted to Director and earned a $1000 bonus. Within six months she earned the “High Jump” [highest honor in Lemongrass Spa’s previous Jump Start program], which included product bonuses, a necklace and massage at a local spa. At nine months Jennifer earned an all-expenses paid vacation for herself and her husband. Then at the end of her first year she ranked number nine in sales in the entire company.  Jennifer said "my first year with Lemongrass Spa was AMAZING!”

Tip 1: Set goals.

Jennifer’s overall goal was to provide healthier products for her family, primarily because one of her daughters has allergies and skin sensitivities. Her personal business goal was to earn the Spa Destination trip for herself and her husband. “Having three kids doesn't leave much time for a getaway, or money to afford it. The experience was everything we thought it would be and more! We were able to relax and re-connect,” Jennifer stated. Each month she sets small goals for her business that will lead her to her big-picture goals, such as earning the 2016 Spa Destination trip to Mexico.

Tip 2: Create a work schedule.

Top Leaders Attend Leading the Way Retreat

Twenty-two women from Lemongrass Spa Products participated in an empowering weekend with Belinda Ellsworth and her Step Into Success Team at the Leading the Way Leadership Retreat in Chicago, Illinois last month. At the cornerstone of the event was the celebration of the release of Belinda’s Direct Selling for Dummies, Amazon’s #1 Bestselling Book in several business categories. This exceptional how-to book helps the reader navigate the direct sales industry in pursuit of success, setting goals, managing their time wisely and harnessing the power of social media to book, sell and recruit. Each attendee received an autographed copy of this business-building manual.

Belinda showcased some of the most impactful social media speakers in today’s direct selling arena, including Lydia Martin and Lyndsay Tompkins. Expert storyteller, comedian and author, Kelly Swanson had the entire audience rolling out of their seats with laughter as she helped us see through our obstacles and make fun of our shortcomings. Linda Ellis inspired us to live each minute as if it were our last. Author of the world-renowned book, The Dash, Ellis shared first hand how th

is book has touched the hearts of millions.

Lemongrass Spa’s Executive Director, Tara LaMagna, was asked to present her successful steps in exceptional team engagement to the direct sales leaders attending the event. Tara’s story of how she built a team of 300 consultants in just over two years had leaders from dozens of direct selling companies feverishly taking notes. Tara’s style of utilizing Facebook groups to motivate and inspire her team, Facebook parties to increase her sales and systems for attracting new recruits to her team have been instrumental in her success. Tara traveled to the Dominican Republic in June 2015 as one of the Spa Destination Trip earners and was named to the Dynamic Dozen (Top in Sales) at the Annual Convention.

Freedom Feet: Pampering Service Members Around the Globe

Freedom Feet started on a sleepless night in 2007! My husband is in the Army and had been back from Iraq for a few months. I had been hearing stories about the living and working conditions. If the Soldiers were outside of their “tin cans” (sleeping quarters) they either had to be in full uniform or in their PT uniforms. Many times a workday consisted of 18 hours, and then 6 hours to clean up, talk with family (if the connections were up and running that day), write letters, unwind, and of course sleep! Then they were up and at it again the next day. That was their day if they were “inside the wire.” If they were “outside the wire” (outside of the semi-safe confines of their base) they were on duty 24 hours and would take turns cat napping, to get their required 4 nonconsecutive hours of sleep. It’s hard to hear about these situations as a wife. It’s hard to picture my husband constantly dirty, never without his weapon, rugged, tired, worn out, and away from any comforts of home.

About that time a very good friend of mine was deploying. Her unit was going to a similar area that my husband had been in. Now her job was vastly different (my husband is in the Infantry) but the conditions were not. So as hard as it was imagining my husband in that situation, it struck a different chord imagining my friend in a similar situation. Because she was a woman, with emotions, needs, and thought processes that I could relate to. It was so hard to picture her going through the same things my husband had gone through just a few months earlier.

As I said in the beginning, I was processing all of this in the middle of the night one night, and I just couldn’t sleep. Knowing the heart of Lemongrass, and knowing the heart of my good friend who was deploying, I knew there was a connection there! And I knew there was something I could do! The thought started off as making a mental note to send her a foot kit and a few other goodies in a personal care package once she was settled. Then that thought grew…”I know I have friends and family who would help share the cost of sending care packages to the women in that unit!” That’s all it took! The next day I was talking to my friend who was deploying! She LOVED the idea, stating that so often the care packages they receive are geared towards men…car magazines, shaving cream, Irish Spring soap, etc! She told me how they are supposed to blend in with the men, and not really look like girls all that much, so a girly package would give them a chance to break away from that and be girls!

I had plenty of friends and family that wanted to send packages, and as I was pulling all of this together, I realized I should probably call Heidi [Leist, Founder & CEO] and make sure that what I was doing was ok! Of course she gave me full permission to keep going, and not only gave me her blessing, but asked if her and other consultants could join with! That was it! Freedom Feet was born! Since then we have sent thousands of foot kits to deployed service members around the world! There have been many brains, much more creative than my own, who have developed Freedom Feet into what it is today, and we would be lost without those women! But most importantly, we have received hundreds of thank you cards/pictures/notes/emails from grateful service members around the world telling us how this gift allowed them to escape from the realities of war and deployment, even if just for a few moments. That right there makes every effort 100% worth it! God Bless the men and women protecting and fighting for our freedoms!

Please join the Freedom Feet Facebook Group to show support for and hear stories from service members.

D_Evans_3.JPGEach month Lemongrass Spa Products spotlights a consultant and that consultant’s successes in both business and personal life. This month Deena Evans, Director from Colorado Springs, Colorado expresses her enthusiasm for giving back to those in need. Also a full-time nurse, Deena said, “when I was asked to tell you a bit about things I do in my community, I felt quite honored, as I'm passionate about so many things in my community and my world!”

Deena began her Lemongrass Spa Products journey over four years ago as a customer ordering facial care products and attending spa parties. “I was drawn to Lemongrass Spa by being invited to a party and needing face care products. I ordered them and loved them! I was invited to several parties and finally my husband told me I should become a consultant at least to get the discount, so I did! After doing my 3 parties, I realized people really loved the products and it was easy to sell...and the more I learned about chemicals in daily life from my up line, the more I loved Lemongrass Spa and felt I needed to share its fabulousness with everyone!” she said.

Her desire to help people through outreach sets Deena apart, and it starts in her own community. According to Deena, “people in my local community are hurting and need to be served and loved!” Deena volunteers at the Dream Centers of Colorado Springs Women's Clinic  each week using her medical training to perform pelvic ultrasounds on female patients who are uninsured or underinsured because she loves “treating people who are feeling 'less than' with utmost respect and love.”

Passionate about helping those who have been rescued from human trafficking, Deena also volunteers for Sak Saum, an organization based in Cambodia “that teaches a trade (sewing, jewelry making, etc.) to guys and girls that have been rescued from the trafficking industry and need a way to be free...from poverty and their past.” You can find Deena volunteering at events “where the [Sak Saum] products are sold and am able to share the story, which I love!”

Deena’s outreach extends beyond the confines of her community. She’s traveled to the island of La Gonave, Haiti several times where there is a mission D_Evans_4.JPGhospital and compound. Traveling with a small group of medical professionals, including the doctor with whom she’s worked for 18 years and his wife, Deena uses her medical skills to assist in surgery and in educating the Haitian nurses who work there. She states it is her pleasure and privilege to be given the opportunity to develop “great relationships and friendships with the nurses there, as well as the joy of helping serve the Haitian people medically.”
